How to learn web designing and earn online?

I am without job now. I have decided to do online jobs and i have chosen web-designing. I know nothing about web-designing, but i want to learn. Is it possible for me to learn web-designing? I am not computer science student. But i know little about computer and programming. How to start learning web-designing and how long ll it take to become expert in web-designing? Any one please help me.

    If you re looking for someone to give you a job, get off the net.
    Or you can put a site up, place offers on it and if you sell.. you get your money.
    If you are no good, you get nothing.

    Hi Prem,

    I think it`s " how long is a piece of string " with this one.

    I have done a little designing using html and found it to be really interesting, but I put some 2 hours a day into it and got a basic site up on the web after a few weeks.

    At the moment I have been involved with Komposer, the free website design editor and have found it quite easy to use, its a WYSIWYG editor.
