I am thinking of going into either web development or web design. I know the small differences but what I really want to know is which one makes more money? If I am going to choose one of these as a career path, I want to make the best choice I can.

Web designers make websites like Facebook appealing, eye-catching, and graphically functional.
Web developers make websites like Facebook work.

I daresay the developers are paid more because they are computer programmers, not just graphic designers on Macs. (And no, having a Mac isn’t required; it’s cheaper but not as elitist to have a PC).

When you looking for a new phone, and you look…. rogers, telus, bell, all the major companies give you an option of unlimited web browsing. I was wondering if anyone knew what the difference between the unlimited web browsing and a data plan is. Is one slower, does one only open html sites…. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE!

Usually there’s no difference. If there’s any difference, it may concern email access and MMS.

I recently downloaded the new windows live messenger and got 10 viruses. Amsn doesn’t work for me. Are there any web messengers that can show my offline messages? I don’t want to download anything.

You could try using http://www.meebo.com or http://www.ebuddy.com. These are both very good web based msn messengers that should be able to show offline messages. If these don’t work, then none will.

I believe AMSN wont work for you, because it is for Apple Mac (apple msn)

A friend of mine wants to start a personal web-designing project. In this scenario, we will find local businesses and charge them for a web page and updates fees. Question is are there any taxes involved or tax regulations?
Location is New Jersey, America if required.

You do not have to charge sales tax for a service that is provided but he will need to pay income tax on any income that he makes from this business.

I’m planning to build a website but since geocities free hosting has shut down, I have to find another web host that is easy to use, navigate, has efficient web tools and has faster loading time. Could anyone share any web host sites and their advantages and disadvantages so I can compare which one is the best? Thanks.

The criteria you mentioned seem to apply only to
reliable paid hosting.

I don’t know why you insist on free hosting service
because from the business point of view, they
don’t provide reliable server to run your website,
even though you upgrade to become their paid users
later on.

When you face an urgent matter, they can’t help
you instantly since they only provide email support.

But if you’re building a personal website just to
share with your closed friends and family and not
using it as a business platform, then that probably
justifies your choice.

I personally would not recommend any free web hosting
service for my clients who run businesses because
they really stinks. I’ve used several of them when
I first started out, but they failed me.

Again, if you just want to build a non-profitable
website, any free hosting service will do the trick.
But if you intend to go into business, then I would
suggest you to go get a reliable paid hosting service
which is easy to use, navigate, has efficient web
tools and has faster loading time, as per your expectation.

I know HTML and CSS but would like to get into the web developer side of things, specifically web applications. I would like your advice as to which language to concentrate on first and which would be most useful - ie PHP, Javascript, XML or others and why?

I think the 2 most popular development languages are PHP and ASP.Net, PHP if you’re using Unix and ASP.Net if your using Windows Servers.
Javascript is used in almost all web development so is good to know.

Is there a web designing software that is setup like Office 2010. I noticed Web Apps, but I’m not sure if it’s a program or new version of Office.

I need to create a small web site for a local club and need a basic web authoring tool for putting the pages together. Anybody got any recommendations?

You should build the site using CMS this includes Wordpress and Joomla both of these are free there are thousands of free templates or you can buy a custom made template.

I would recommend wordpress (did i say it free)you don’t need to learn html or how to use dreamweaver (expensive + big learning curve)

many host have a one or two click install for wordpress and joomla

I recommend wordpress because there are so many free plugins that add functions like adding a news group where people can signup for your news letter.

another that will add a contact us page, there are hundreds of free plugins

the big plus is you type into wordpress to add content the same way you use microsoft word

when you choose a webhost find one that has the one click install the hosts I use has try
