Hey guys, i just bought a new radar detector for my car, it is able of detecting several different bands… POP Alert, X Band, K Band, Ku Band, VG-2 Alert and Spectre 1 Alert. Which one of these should i have activated at all times and what the difference between them? Thanks
The different bands on radar are like stations on a radio. Different police forces use different bands of radar, to deal with different conditions.
By default, they should all be on all the time

The OFF band should be activated at all times. Don’t speed and you won’t need a costly radar detector.

It depends on which radar bands are used in your city. You can find a list here: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/speed-trap-info/33306-radar-bands-town-updated-10-10-08-a.html
X Band is not widely used by the police and gives radar detectors false alerts because it is also used in door openers.
Ku Band is not yet being used in the United States. As of right now, it is only being used in Europe.
POP Alert is not a band. POP is a short burst of radar used to defeat radar detectors. Police are not supposed to issue tickets using only POP radar. They must also use Constant On radar to confirm the results of the POP reading.
VG-2 and Spectre 1 Alerts are both alerts for radar detector detector. If you live in a state where radar detectors are legal, you should turn these off. VG-2 and Spectre 1 are not widely used anymore anyways. Most departments use Spectre 3 and 4.
I would turn off POP and X (depending on what is used in your area), Ku, VG-2, and Spectre 1.
