What are the colored bands on the brackets of braces for?

I just got my braces changed and the nurse/lady/person or whatever didn’t put it on right and one of the colored bands just fell off. She did it weird, because there’s this rubber band thing stretched across my first four teeth, and then she put colored bands on top of that. Do you think it’s okay if I wait for my next appointment (May 22) or go back now?

    Well, i think you should go back if it is hurtful and noticeable, if it isn’t, i think you might want to wait. I am so happy about this so i just have to mention that i am getting my braces the 25th. Of April, so it will be April 25th 2009.
