I need to do a project where you talk about an artist that is authentic in a genre, and an artist that is not. Ideas for places to find information would be great too. Any suggestions?
Tracy Lawrence is a pretty authentic country singer, in my opinion.
George Strait and Brooks& Dunn are examples of country singers who started out being really authentic but who have recently taken a turn towards producing music that fits more into the "modern" genre of country.
Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood are probably good examples of artists who frequently get classified under the country genre but really aren’t. Good luck! =]

Authentic is Hank Williams, Jean Shepard, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, the Carter Family (the original), Merle Haggard, the Delmore Brothers, the Louvin Brothers, and the Wilburn Brothers.
Not authentic would be pretty much anyone today, going back to Billy Ray Cyrus. Another not-authentic person (and I can guarantee you I’ll get TDs for this) is Glen Campbell. Most of his best-known music was heavily orchestrated pop songs that were, by the songwriter’s own admission (Jimmy Webb), pop, not country, songs (e.g., "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman").
A good example of BOTH would be Hank Williams Jr. Compare his early career ("I Walked Out on Heaven," "Cajun Baby," "Eleven Roses") to his career in the 80s ("All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight"). Compare his mentions in his early career ("I was with Red Foley the night he passed away") to his later career ("we like Van Halen, we like ZZ Top").
Hank Williams Jr. went from being a solid country performer to a country-rock — emphasis on the ROCK — one.
