How do web sites get paid from advertiers?
28.July, 2009
Is it from how many hits come to the site? Is it from when someone clicks on a pop up on your site? How much do adverisers pay for internet ads to web sites?
Websites (also known as publishers, networks, vendors or affiliates) get paid by an Advertiser (like LendingTree, Match.com etc.) for one thing: getting users to jump through a hoop which results in revenue for the advertiser.
The payout is determined by a variety of metrics:
CPM - cost per thousand impressions (prices vary by ad-size)
CPA - cost per action taken by consumer (action determined by advertiser, usually a sale)
CPC - cost per click (most common form of payment in paid search)
CPL - cost per lead, which is used for co-registration and email marketing
Flat fee - a flat monthly or yearly fee for an integrated placement or widget that has permanent real estate on the publisher’s website.
If you are buying or selling online, you need to be aware that each of the metrics above has a distinct advantage for either side. For example, flat fee favors the publisher, and CPA favors the advertiser.
If you are an individual website, yes traffic plays a big part. However, there are plenty of sites that deliver TONS of traffic but it is low quality. A good example of this is Myspace. Because they have quality issues, Myspace has to accept a lot of CPA advertising. If they tried to charge a CPM, then the advertiser pays for thousands of impressions generated by teenagers interested in one thing — updating their profile. The end result is a lot of low quality traffic, and low-quality ads (hit the monkey and win a prize).
I’m just guessing, but if you are the owner of a small website with low to medium traffic (between 1,000 to 20,000 unique visits per month) you might want to try being an affiliate for Comission Junction or Linkshare.
In my opinion, you don’t want to join an ad network (they lump together a bunch of sites and then sell the traffic in bulk as RON or "Run of Network" to online advertisers), which will basically own your site and rent it out to other people (think Valueclick, Specific Media, Casale Media, Advertising.com).
An affiliate is different — they can choose which ads (and consequently which creative) they would like to show on their site.
The downside, of course, is you will probably get paid oin a CPA — which is risky because you can wait a while (and give away a lot of your impressions for free) before a consumer jumps through the right hoop and you get credit for it.
The ideal scenario is to create a website that has specialized content, a decent amount of traffic and the right affiliate relationship which rewards you for gathering a valuable audience.
Hope this helps!

What is a makeup artist for the deceaced called?
28.July, 2009
I am interested in a career as a makeup artist at a funeral parlor. Where can I find the resources and information that I would need to achieve my goals?
It’s called a Mortuary Cosmetologist.
I would recommend studying at a local mortuary college. The area of cosmetology requires extensive knowledge of physiognomy (the study of the muscles of the face), color scale, recreative artistry, and chemistry.
Many of the mortuary schools offer courses that cover all of these areas. Funeral homes in urban settings sometimes use local services to come and do hair and some cosmetics. Most do their own cosmetic work as part of the normal preparation of the deceased.
The best advice I can give would be to go and talk to your local funeral home/funeral director and ask what requirements the funeral home may have. The funeral director may even have other suggestions for your particular part of the country. Plus, they may have a great recommendation for schools, and may even be willing to let you meet with their own cosmetologist.
Right now I am learning HTML but I want to know what else is really needed to have a website come off as profitable and stable. This is for a bands website.
It depends on what you mean by "have a website come off as profitable and stable" - what are you talking about?
Do you want to make a profit from the website for your band? Do you want your site to look professional? Are you talking about selling stuff as far as your band goes? You can show pictures of what your band has to sell, take payments via paypal. You can also add adsense ads to your site as well. You earn money when people click on the ads.
A lot of bands have myspace pages but you can’t add adsense ads to myspace pages but you CAN have both a myspace and a regular website.
Your band could also get sponsors and advertisers of their own.
You could also start a podcast/talkshow featuring your band - all for free!
There are a lot of free ways to make your site profitable but you have to do the work and not just build a site and then do nothing else to it.

i,ve recently started looking into web design and signing up to a course but i am in need of software please help.
if you are intrested in it as a career than you need to learn dreamweaver as that is the industry standard.
Also knowing how to use Photoshop, Flash, and Fireworks would benfit you as these are also used in the web industry.
Don’t bother learning fromtpage, it add too much useless code and if you went to a job interview to be a web designer or developer then they will probably laugh at you if you decide to learn this over dreamweaver.
If you are intrested in building sites from scratch or for this as a career, it would be good also to look into MySQL PHP and ASP too as these are very desirable skills in web design and development jobs.
There are so many packages out their for web design and so may WYSIWYG programs such as frontpage out there but you seriously only need dreamwaver when it comes to building basic websites, and its pointless learning any of the other ones if you want to go into this as a career.
I want to start an online bakery. What is the best and least expensive way to build a web page and advertise?
Check out www.homestead.com for a DIY website builder which offers shopping cart and paypal options; all starting at $10 per month for hosting fees.
Good luck!

Does the anyone know the web site to the driving permit to drive into mexico?
You can drive into Mexico territory with A valid American driver’s license
To drive your own US drive license in Mexico, you’ll need a tourist card and a temporary vehicle importation permit, which you can get at the border. In some tourist border areas, you don’t need this permit or a tourist card; for instance,
Proof of car ownership
Proof of American registration
An affidavit from any lien holders authorizing temporary importation
A valid American driver’s license
Proof of citizenship (like a passport)
