Heya Please tell em what the difference is between linux web hosting and windows web hosting. I made my site by dreamweaver does that affect either of the 2 i should choose please tell me thanx!
Windows and Linux often use two different web server applications. Windows sites use the Windows IIS server, while nearly all Linux sites use Apache.
Linux sites focus on PHP, Perl and other open-source script languages for server side scripting. Windows-based sites use ,NET and ASP technologies. They might also offer support for PHP.
Linux sites offer MySQL as the database for backend content storage. Windows sites will probably offer SQL Server, though some offer the Windows versions of MySQL as well.
There shouldn’t be any difference between the two if you use strict web standards in your HTML. However, you need to be aware of the fact that, since Dreamweaver is a Windows-only product, it may insert some non-standard things into your HTML. Frontpage also does this.
As long as you stick to accepted web standards and don’t use any Windows-centric stuff in your site, you should have no problems with either one.
What is the best site to buy and sell stock online?
28.June, 2009
I am clueless to the stock market but figured best way to learn is to invest a few hundred dollars. Wondering what site is the most user friendly and more importantly what site has the best deal.
With only a few hundred dollars I would not recommend real trading. Instead open a practice trading account and learn with play money. You can learn while you practice. After you have saved some more, and understand the basics, then open an account at a discount broker such as Scottrade.
Investopedia is one of the best free sites for education. And they have a free stock simulator so you practice trading.

How do I become a really good artist well known artist?
28.June, 2009
I have spent the last 5 years majoring in art at a good private college. I will graduate in 2 semesters. After spending all of that time and $ I don't feel like I'm any better of an artist than I was when I started. I've had their drawing 1 and 2 classes, their painting classes etc and I'm still at the same level that I started at. I draw and paint as well as anyone in my classes but when you look at the artwork of the people who do work for movies or people who do illustrations for magazines we don't compare. I look at the masters and wonder how they got so good. What type of schools teach you to draw, paint, express on that level. I have even noticed that there are students graduating who cant even draw at the basic levels. And some of them are going to be art teachers. Who teaches the really good artist how to get that good? Where do I need to go? I don't want to start studying at some school that teaches art and not be any better than I am now.
Enter your art to www.designbyhumans.com
The community votes on the art and the winner receives a cash prize. You will get a lot of exposure on this site.
I was just watching the Rose Bowl and realized that all the players have black or white bands around their arms near their elbows. What are these bands and what do they do?
Yea i went to that usc - penn state game. i saw mark sanchez had a band on there elbows. i play football for high and i dont use them but my friends use them because most of the time the field is turf. so you wear arm bands to protect ur elbows from "turf burn". if on grass you use it just to make it look good. But good question cause my brother asked me the same thing during the game.
I need some fast cash that doesn't take much time (I've been doing webdesign for about 2-3 years now, so I can fly through sites within a few days to a week) since I'm still in school and have a job. I know how to make frames/iframes, tables, custom scroll bars, etc. I also do custom graphics/pixelart. About how much should I charge per site based on:
*Number of pages
*Complexity of the script (i.e. frames vs. tables)
*Number of custom graphics
I don't like the whole hourly rate thing, I would prefer a pay-up-front kind of thing (or pay after seeing image of finished product). Any suggestions?
Also, does anyone know of a free Paypal-type script that I could use? Thanks!
My advice: find someone who wants a site and then make it for them for a nominal fee of say $100 or $200 and then take care of hosting the site and the domain name. The charge does need to be appropriate to the level of work you're doing.
If it's a static site the charge will obviously be lower since you're not going to have to go back and update it at all. If the site requires some ongoing work then charge more (say one update per week that sort of thing). And of course if you're just making a site and don't want to have to deal with it again just charge about 30% lower than what you think any competiiton will charge.
Charge thesame fee annually. If they no longer want to pay then take the site down, if they pay leave it up, the key is your the one in charge of where it's hosted etc. Thus it becomes an annual revenue stream as opposed to some quick cash on a onetime basis. Money over a long period is much more prefferable.
Plus you can rent webspace and store multiple sites on it yet still charge the same rates.
How to make a Web site/page more accessible to those with handicaps using CSS positioning?
28.June, 2009
I need to know how CSS positioning can make a Web page or site more accessible to those with handicaps. Links to the information would be wonderful, thank you!
It’s not necessarily just CSS… there are several things that come into play when you’re talking about accessibility.
Positioning with CSS is a way to work *around* accessibility, to make a site look better for those without disabilities… and can often be avoided by choosing simpler layouts.
A couple of pointers (most of which don’t involve CSS *at all*):
Make fonts readable, not fancy (maybe a little of both)
Indicate how fonts can be resized
Use clear contrast (dark font, light background, in a non-clashing scale.
If you’re using forms, give each field a tabindex.
Make sure contents are placed before anything else; if necessary, allow for a link to switch between contents and navigation (and back) - that’s also good for SEO, by the way - a bonus.
Don’t use images instead of text.
Don’t have a page rely on JavaScript to display contents or perform actions - screen readers can’t always deal with it.
Don’t use Flash.

Also, never confuse “accessibility” with “usability” - although the two are closely related.

How do I start my own Webpage from scratch?
28.June, 2009
I want to create a webpage that is easily searchable on all the majore search engines to tell about success stories for a disease in my family.
I have no idea how to even start. Please give all the details.
Thanks.
i need realistic answers. please.
If you are a true novice and don't want to spend much time learning how to make a site, I would suggest the current super-popular MySpace. You can quickly get your information up for all your friends to see.
If you are interested in something more, but still fairly simple try GeoCities or Yahoo.
If you are willing to learn HTML I would suggest ATSPACE.COM. You can create a website for FREE up to 50MBs in size and NO ADS. I have two websites through them and the uptime is great. You'll need an ftp program to upload your stuff. There's a good free one for personal use called "FTP Explorer". Of course you'll either need to learn HTML or use one of the WYSIWYG programs like FrontPage or DreamWeaver to actually design your site. e-mail me if you need some help…
If you want your own domain and have it hosted, I suggest ReadyHosting. You get 1GB of space unlimted e-mail accounts, FTP access and domain name registration all for $99 a year.
Web hosting site (FREE):

Web hosting site (COST):

Family Website (ATSpace.com - FREE)

I'm looking for a web site that would let you enter ingredients you have on hand–say celery, mushrooms, and squash–and would spit out a variety of recipes that use those ingredients. Do you know anything like that?
If you don't know of such a site, would you please build one for me? Thanks.
